Stop GitHub emailing you about your site

A two-minute change to your own GitHub settings. Nothing about your access, your site, or Claude Code changes — GitHub just stops sending email.

GitHub emails you about activity in any repository you can reach — and because we keep your open drafts in sync with your live site, some of that activity is ours. None of it needs anything from you and nothing is wrong. GitHub only lets each person change their own notification settings, so this is one we can't switch off from our side. It takes about two minutes, and you'll still see everything inside GitHub when you're signed in.

The GitHub repository for your site, as owner/name. Optional — the steps below are the same for every site.

  1. Open your GitHub notification settings

    Go to github.com/settings/notifications. Sign in if it asks.

    This is your own GitHub account's settings page, so it opens in a new tab — keep this page open alongside it and work down the list.

  2. Turn off email for repositories you're watching

    Under Subscriptions → Watching, untick Email. Leave GitHub ticked — you'll still see everything in the bell icon when you're signed in.

    The two tick boxes are in the small menu on that row.

  3. Do the same for conversations you're part of

    Under Subscriptions → Participating, @mentions and custom, untick Email the same way.

  4. Turn off email for build reports

    Under System → Actions, untick Email — those are automated build reports.

  5. Stop new repositories switching it back on

    Untick Automatically watch repositories, so being added to something new doesn't start it again.

That's it. Nothing about your access, your site, or Claude Code changes — you've only told GitHub to stop emailing you. Notifications stay in GitHub's inbox at github.com/notifications whenever you want them.

Rather keep some email?
The unsubscribe link at the bottom of any single GitHub email turns off just that one conversation.
Where do the emails come from?
Keeping your drafts current with your live site pushes a small update to each open draft in your repository, and GitHub reports each one to whoever opened the draft.
Can't we do this for you?
No — GitHub only lets each person change their own notification settings. If you'd rather not have GitHub access at all, say so; everything can be done from the Edit with AI button on your own site.
